Balanced Cement Plug Calculator works out the cement slurry volume for a target plug length, the actual balanced length that volume occupies once the open-ended workstring is in the hole, the spacer volumes ahead of and behind the cement, and the displacement volume needed to spot the whole fluid train at the correct depth. Run it in reverse to solve for the plug length a known, already-mixed cement volume will produce.

How It Works

Cement volume = hole/casing capacity × nominal plug length. Balanced length = cement volume ÷ (annular capacity around the stinger + stinger internal capacity) — the same volume occupies a longer length once the stinger's own bore is also filling. Displacement volume = stinger internal capacity × depth to the top of the fluid train.

When You'd Use It

Before spotting a plug for zone isolation or plug-and-abandon, engineers work out how much cement to pump, how long that plug actually balances out to once the workstring is run in, the spacer volumes needed ahead and behind it, and the exact displacement volume that positions the whole train at the intended depth.
