Temperature at Depth Calculator converts a surface temperature and geothermal gradient into the static (undisturbed formation) temperature at any target depth, plus the resulting temperature change (ΔT) — the exact input Stretch Calculator's own Temperature Effect field needs. Run it in reverse to solve for the local gradient implied by a measured temperature at a known depth.

How It Works

Temperature at depth (°F) = surface temperature + (geothermal gradient × depth) — the standard field-unit relation for static (BHST) formation temperature, not circulating (BHCT) temperature.

When You'd Use It

Before running a string into the hole, engineers estimate the temperature it will reach at depth — and the resulting temperature change — to feed a stretch/space-out calculation, or to sanity-check a measured bottomhole temperature against the locally implied gradient.
