Area Calculator
Area Calculator gives completion engineers fast, accurate cross-sectional area figures for tubing, casing, and open hole — internal area, external area, and annular area between any two concentric strings. These figures feed directly into capacity, displacement, velocity, and force calculations used throughout well design, so getting them right matters. Supports multi-string configurations in both field and metric units.
How It Works
Internal area = π/4 × ID². External area = π/4 × OD². Annular area between two concentric strings = π/4 × (ID_outer² − OD_inner²).
See every formula worked through in detail on the Completion Engineering Formulas reference.
When You'd Use It
Before running a liner or workstring, engineers check whether it will pass through the existing casing with enough annular clearance for cement returns or cuttings circulation — a quick area calculation catches a tight-clearance problem before the string is on location.
